Why Pray the Lord’s Prayer

When Jesus gave us the Lord’s prayer He was not giving us a prayer to repeat, but an outline to use in knowing how to pray He broke down praying into 6 main parts. It is broken down into 6 practical areas for you to pray about.

1.) The Lord’s prayer starts off by acknowledging your relationship with your Heavenly Father. This is important because without a personal relationship with God you do not have direct access to God.

2.) Next you pray for the rule and reign of God to be present in your life and for His will to be done in all things. When you pray for the rule and reign of Jesus to come, you are praying for all the things that are in heaven to be manifested here on earth.

3.) Praying for your needs to be met is the 3rd thing that is on the list. Your heavenly father is interested in seeing your personal needs are taken care of.I am not sure He cares about a white tux and a bad toupee but He cares about your needs.

4.) After that is dealing with the sticky subject of forgiveness. Unforgiveness only hurts ourselves and God wants us to have the best life He has destined for us.

5.) This part of the Lord’s prayer is often confused with just asking to stay away from sin. It actually means for you to ask God for guidance in every area of your life so you can avoid the traps and pitfalls that the enemy would put in front of you to keep you from having the type of life God wants you to have.

6.) The final step is to surrender all that you have just prayed into the capable hands of God acknowledging that He is in control and choosing to have faith in your Heavenly Father. It is a conscious choice you are making to put what is not in your control into His control.
